One week in May
Overview:      
            Students are to choose one individual from a list of contemporary world leaders and match them with at least two relevant issues from another attached list. Then they will prepare a brief biographical powerpoint presentation to the class about how that leader dealt with those issues.       
Christian perspective:   
All of the relevant issues are important to the Christian faith. Among the issues will be the following: concern for gender equality, human rights, environment, freedom and slavery etc.
 
Learning goals:
  1. Students are to become familiar with recent world history and those individuals who impacted it the most
  2. Students are to make judgements about these individual’s impact on the issues.
Lesson objectives:
  1. Students do research using a database.
  2. Students analyze how their leader dealt with at least two of the issues on the list.  
  3. Students prepare and present a powerpoint to the rest of the class.                            
Student prerequisite skills:
            Students must be able to use a digital data base in our high school library.                                                   Student must be able to do a powerpoint presentation                                 
Technology, resources, materials:
            The Student Resource Center “Gold”
            Microsoft power point ’03 or newer                                                                          
Procedures:                
 
Two days of research time in the Media Center using the computers must be reserved in advance.
(They may also access the data base at home)
Students draw topics at random
Students research online and prepare a powerpoint for class.
Students make presentations to the class
           
Assessment/rubric: 
            Students are to prepare a brief biographic powerpoint presentation with at least one slide being a photograph and the last slide containing bibliographic information. Students must have made connections to at least two relevant issues.
